I have thought Echo is just the loveliest girl for years and when I realised I would have a home of my own by the time this litter of puppies would be ready to leave I called Kat. She gave me Whisky and I can never thank her enough. Look at that face - isn't she perfect?!
Whisky to me is the perfect dog. She loves me, thinks every human and dog she meets is a best friend waiting to happen, couldn't be more keen to please and yet is a very happy, stable, sound character. Kat did some amazing work with her as a puppy so she arrived already perfectly confident that life was wonderful and always going to treat her kindly. It didn't take her long to settle in. As a puppy she was an adorable fluff monster and tried so hard to be a good girl. She adapted to sleeping through the night quickly and with very few accidents and outstripped all of the other puppies at her puppy training.
I had always thought that border collies were non-stop work and energy but Whisky takes surprisingly little effort to please. We walk her for an hour in the morning and an hour every evening and beyond that all she wants is to be with the family. She will hop up on the sofa for snuggles if we invite her for some tv time, curl up on her mat in the kitchen if I'm cooking or sit by my feet with a chew toy if I'm playing the piano. She really doesn't mind, as long as she gets to be involved. She isn't clingy though - she will wait for me if I go to the bathroom or out to the garage but she doesn't cry or show any hint of anxiety, she just sits down and chills out until I come back. She is independent enough to go on a good old explore in the woods but I never have to wait more than 30 seconds after whistling for her to see her hurtling towards me (even in squirrel season). She loves running just for the sheer pleasure of it and has really enjoyed agility as a way to channel her energy. She is doing really well, very responsive, excellent at reading what Chris wants from her and we are looking forward to competing with her next year. She loves our two cats and quickly learnt to walk over slowly enough that they don’t suspect a thing and then unobtrusively start licking their ears. Zuzu often ambushes Whisky in the garden for a game (a brave game for a tiny kitten) and Whisky loves chasing her back but she never catches her, she just dances around her to show off that she is faster. She has a terrible addiction to bubbles and a knack for finding the stitching in soft toys! She makes me laugh every day - she tap dances on the hall floor to show how excited she is when I come home, always tries to lead me to her bubbles and rubs her head on the underside of my hand if its not stroking her when it should be.
Whisky acts like the world is just the most perfect lovely place and it is totally infectious. We love her and wouldn't be without her.
